The launch of Halo 5: Guardians has finally arrived, and here at XBLG it's been a busy one to say the least! We attended the official Xbox launch in Camden, London and got the chance to meet many familiar faces as well as some new ones within gaming community. It proved to be a fantastic launch and many of you have since fired up your Xbox One consoles supporting Team Chief or Team Locke through the campaign as well as suiting up your Spartan before marching onto the battlefield.

The mighty Covenant Empire was not always a deadly alliance between many alien races fighting against humanity. The term 'Covenant' was coined by the original two races to join in a pact: the Sangheili (the Elites) and the San 'Shyuum (the Prophets).

In the years before the Covenant, the Prophets travelled through space looking for precious items known as Forerunner Artefacts. Their obsession with finding these ancient weapons and tools led them to the planet of the Elites. Only through integrating Forerunner technology into their own could the Elites force the Prophets into a stalemate, leading to a sharing of technologies - and the precious forerunner artefacts. This early peace between the two races became known as the covenant, and so the name stuck as an encompassing term for the entire empire.

Just before the release of Halo 5: Guardians, my friend decided he wanted to spend some money on a new game to kill time until Fallout 4 finally drops in November. He asked me if he should get Halo, as he had played it before but didn't really enjoy it all that much. After a little bit of discussion, he decided to grab The Master Chief Collection. The value was there for him, and there's plenty for us to play together and grab some friends for co-op or competitive if the feeling arose.

So we grabbed our third regular gaming buddy and jumped straight in to Halo 3 on Legendary. Sure, it may not be the best way, but we wanted a bit of a challenge and a laugh at the same time. We had a blast, gunning through to Tsavo Highway before he eventually went off to sleep. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, and definitely seemed to have changed his opinion on Halo straight away.

Monday October 26th, the Roundhouse on Chalk Farm Road in London played host to the launch of Halo 5: Guardians. Luckily Calum Petrie and Fran O'Reilly were on hand to check out the event and report back.

When planning Halo Month, we wanted to do something really special for the video content. Luckily we know John, AKA “The World’s Tallest Spartan” and have for a number of years. We approached him with the idea of being the live action star of our promotional videos and he was game.

He really is an extraordinary guy and this is his story.
