March 28th will see the release of The Ringed City, the second DLC of Dark Souls 3. The launch trailer features stunning new vistas similar to Anor Londo, intimidating enemies and host of new weapons. We even see a ridiculous overpowered dragon. I still need to progress through the first DLC but this one is shaping up to add a good amount of new content.
It still makes me curious what From Software will go into next after they finish with Dark Souls 3.
I've been posting and following Focus Home Interactive and Deck13's The Surge for a while now. The first E3 impressions, if I remember rightly, showed a world and combat inspired by mechanics of Dark Souls. With the release of Zero Dawn on PS4 I see some similarities in the setting now but the recent CGI trailer offers a few hints on the upcoming title aimed for launch on May 16th.
In the spirit of live action/CGI trailers, Deck 13 released a trailer called "Bad day at the Office" for the upcoming RPG The Surge. The trailer shows us a little backstory of the company and the main character gaining his exosuit, as well as a few flashy scenes of the main character battling some robotic baddies.
Dark Souls III saw the launch of its first DLC this week. Ashes of Ariandel is the first of two planned DLCs coming out. I am hopeful by 'planned' that they may develop more. Player who already own a season pass will receive both DLCs to no expense. The setting of Ashes of Ariandel will take players to a painted world full of new enemies, weapons and spells. Check out the launch trailer below:
Developer Deck13 revealed their new title, The Surge, an action RPG coming to Xbox One, PC and Playstation 4. Its likely that The Surge will utilize the new Microsoft 'buy once and play anywhere' on either Xbox One or PC. The Surge looks to be a sci-fi twist on Dark Souls games with both games sharing similar controls, viewpoints and UI. It is reminiscent of Lords of the Fallen but The Surge has looked to create a more futuristic dystopian setting where weapons are not high tech weapons but machinery items. The main character and most human enemies are wearing some form of exo-suit with attachments that turn a simple heavy lifting exo-suit into one man killing machine.
There are a few gameplay videos out there that show off and interesting combat mechanic when the player locks on to an opponent and can target individual limbs or parts of a body. The Surge rewards players depending on their level of skill. If a player works towards executing an opponent in a certain way, they have a higher chance of loot. An example would be decapitating an enemy to increase the chances obtaining their helmet. However, The Surge is still showing alpha gameplay so we are not expected to see the souls' esque game until next year. Definitely one to watch for Dark Souls fans.
