I played Trove well over a year ago when it was first released via early access on Steam. I enjoyed the games graphics as well as the Minecraft-esque feel to the whole game. It felt like someone had taken Runescape and smashed it lovingly together with a voxel art style.  When I played it on PC over a year ago there wasn't nearly enough to do. There was questing in worlds and dungeons but the game lacked any substance for me. The MMO feel was lost in the vast worlds with very repetitive dungeons (they still have that too). Fast forward to today and Trove is available on Xbox One.

Now I installed Trove on Saturday and thanks to friends I levelled up really quickly, in both aspects. Both aspects you say? Well yes, Trove has two ways of levelling, there's your regular character progression level that unlocks skills, skill slots, gem slots (more on them later), item requirement and health boost. But there is also a Mastery level which allows you to use certain Clubhouse items, forge items and unlock further items. At first glance, Trove is a very basic looking game. You point your cursor at the bad guys, which range from possessed cakes and fridges, to neon robots straight out of Tron, to pirate parrots, to killer bees etc, and pull the right trigger. Throw in the occasional ability mapped to left trigger and bumpers and that's it. Everything else in combat is juggling your health while bouncing around enemies.

Trion Worlds announced that their voxel-box MMO Trove, will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 later this years. The charming MMO has been warmly received on PC and players have helped expand the game.

I played Trove last year when it was still in early development. There was a host of character classes, player home locations and different worlds to explore complete with dungeons. The character classes were outside the box which peaked my interest. There was a choice of Tomb Raiser, Bommeranger, Pirate Captain, Shadow hunter, Ice Sage, Candy Barbarian, Neon Ninja, Dracolyte, Fae trickster, Gunslinger and Knight. Each of these classes had their own style as well as weapon set. I remember selecting the Dracolyte which is a form of fire mage that has a small dragon companion. Except your ultimate ability is to turn into an actual dragon, so that had me sold right off the bat. You get a free token for a second class and I selected the Ice Sage. Apart from the Ice Sage being an under-powered class compared to the Dracolyte, the class still felt powerful.

It was recently announced by Trion Worlds that Defiance will be receiving an all-new and completely free world expansion called Silicon Valley next week on the 5th August. This expansion will reveal to players that Karl Von Bach has disappeared into Silicon Valley with his EGO-imbued followers however all is not what it seems and the grass is not actually greener. The valley is swamped with Grid and a mysterious cult called the Pilgrims of the Guiding light has a foothold in various locales across the area. As everything unravels a call for help is sent out and only the Ark Hunters have what it takes to face what trials lie ahead.
