Layers of Fear gets a Game Preview on Xbox One

So you might not know that Xbox One has its own Game Preview function, which is similar to Steam’s Early Access, and they've just gone and added a new game to it called Layers of Fear! They game will be available to buy from Friday (that’s the 20th October to any late comers of this piece).

Just like Early Access, you’ll be able to dive head first into the game before it’s full release. “But Mick, why would we pay for an unfinished game?”, I hear you reader but keep on reading! According to the devs, Bloober Team (more on them later), the game already feels like a finished product! It’s just about 80% complete and features two to three hours of polished gameplay. The upcoming updates will mostly focus on bug fixes and adding additional content. You will also have a part in the production process – the dev team will listen to all of the feedback they receive. Your ideas and constructive criticism are taken into consideration and can impact the shape of the finished product.

If that’s not enough, Layers of Fear has attained some high praise, currently sitting at a 97% positive review rating on Steam based on more than 1500 players. Now that many people can’t be wrong, can they?

If you prefer the words from other online review sites, then have a look at what they had to say below:

"Layers of Fear Is The One of The Biggest Horror Surprises of The Year" – Kotaku
"Layers of Fear is like P.T. on drugs" – Polygon
"Truly, Layers of Fear is a masterpiece to behold." – CGMagazine Online

Now before you go jumping you might want to know a bit about the game! According the team, Layers of Fear is a psychedelic adventure horror game about a madness-engulfed painter striving to create the work of his life. You will learn the dark story of his past while gathering carefully crafted personal items that can be found in the game. Traverse the vision-induced, constantly shifting house full of supernatural phenomena, where each move of the camera can change the environment, and discover the true motive of the artist. The thick atmosphere will keep you on edge at all times, building the mood layer by layer.

The game has been developed in Unity Engine, presenting an uncanny focus on detail and visual aesthetics. Heavily inspired by the masterpiece paintings from the past centuries, and the architecture and décor from the 19th century, Layers of Fear is a truly unique experience on the market.

I’ve tossed in some game features for you as well (you’re all so lucky!)

A psychedelic horror game where each turn of the camera may change the look of your surroundings.

Deep insight into the madness that entwines a human being.

Inspired by the masterpiece paintings from the past centuries, and the architecture and décor from the XIX century.

A thick atmosphere that will make you feel on-edge throughout the whole game.

If you can’t wait for it to be released on consoles, it’s out now on Steam Early Access and the Humble Store.

As promised here’s a bio on the team behind Layers of Fear, Bloober Team:

Bloober Team is an indie developer from Cracow, Poland. We strive to create horror games unlike any other on the market: mashing up genres, telling unconventional stories, focusing on the game experience.
