Leaks, leaks everywhere.

The last few days have been quite exciting down in Xbox-land. Rumours recently surfaced on the internet and later exploded thanks to self-proclaimed Microsoft insider 'ntkrnl' as known on gaming enthusiast forum NeoGAF. XBLG's Chris touched upon these rumours yesterday in his Rumour-Round Up article but now we have further pieces of information to share.

Now normally, rumours are to be taken with a pinch of salt, especially in the gaming world and the on-going console wars. However, Kotaku has confirmed that Microsoft are actively trying to track down and identify ntkrnl in order to take legal action against him/her. The very notion that Microsoft is tracking the leak down implies that there may be some truth to the rumours. Microsoft have made no official comment on the leaks so far.

One rumour has been backed up today by VG247, whose insider source confirmed ntkrnl's assertion that the Xbox One will have a new and cheaper model released during 2014. There is no confirmation as of yet whether the new model will be a digital-only system. The Blu-Ray drive however, seems to be the most logical component to be dropped in order to effect a price-cut aside from dropping Kinect 2.0.

Microsoft has gone on record saying that the Kinect 2.0 will not be dropped.

A summary of the rumours:

  • Open world Forza Horizon to be released Fall 2014.

  • Sunset Overdrive to be released Fall 2014.

  • Quantum Break to be released Holidays 2014.

  • Fable Legends to be released Summer 2015.

  • Next Gears of War title to be released in Summer 2016.

  • Crackdown 3 to be released sometime in 2016.

  • Cheaper Xbox One model, possibly digital-only.

  • White Xbox One console incoming.

  • Titanfall Limited Edition console incoming.

  • 2 editions of Halo 2 Anniversary is in the works; one with beta access to Halo 5 along with some TV content, second includes the previous plus ports of Halo 3 & 4 to the Xbox One.

  • Black Tusk project cancelled due to Microsoft's acquisition of Gears of War franchise, originally codenamed 'Shangheist'.

  • Japanese developers Platinum Games working on 'Project Nagano' for Xbox One.

  • Titanfall's first DLC pack scheduled to be released 45 days after the main game, second DLC pack after 120 days .

  • No plans to release Fable Anniversary.
