Rainbow Six Siege Producer Hints at Beta

Of the many upcoming games on show at this year's E3, I found Rainbow Six Siege to be one of the most impressive titles presented and dare I say, a more than worthy comparison to EA and DICE's Battlefield Hardline. Both have that 'Cops and Robbers' theme going for it, and while Hardline provides the Battlefield experience that we're all quite familiar with, Siege offers in-depth strategical and tactical gameplay on relatively small maps.

Siege offers extreme close quarters combat.

So why am I mentioning Battlefield at all here? It's all about the Rainbow Six beta. I felt that ever since the Battlefield 4 fiasco, developers have been much more cautious in general about their games. In fact I believe the now pretty much confirmed 2014 gaming drought is directly the result of BF4's problems. The number of delays have definitely been more than usual and that's a good thing along with more and lengthier betas.

Speaking after Ubisoft's impressive E3 display, Producer Sebastien Labbe was asked about whether a beta was being planned. Labbe responded:

"What I can say is that for sure, we're no different from the other online shooters. We want to be online - we're providing a strong PVP game, and if we want that we need to create a community. So if we wait until the launch, I expect it will be too late.

"There will certainly be things that will occur, but at the moment we can't talk about that...It's not clearly defined because it's still a lot of work to do, but certainly there will be some announcements about that. So stay tuned."

With the large array of desturction in Rainbow Six Siege, a long beta might not be the worst idea.

All very cryptic for sure but Labbe is correct about one thing; there needs to be a community in place before the game goes live. The FPS market is going to be very fierce and nobody expected Rainbow Six to be added to the melting pot. The only way for Siege to establish a large community is through a long open beta, and I hope that is what Ubisoft has in store for gamers.

Let us know what you think about Rainbow Six Siege? Is the game good enough to take on the big guns in the FPS market? Check out the E3 gameplay below.
