Split-Screen Returns to Halo

Since the launch of Halo 5, fans of the Halo franchise have felt that one of the most core elements of the series, split-screen, has been ignored. Well, finally, we have word from the head of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross, that ALL FUTURE FIRST PERSON SHOOTER HALO GAMES WILL HAVE SPLIT-SCREEN SUPPORT. I hope you’ll excuse the use of caps, but i’m sure most of you will understand that this is very important news.

Playing Halo together with your friends has been core to Halo since day one, and Halo 5 left a lot of fans feeling like their core Halo experience wasn’t complete without precious split-screen. Luckily Halo 5 seems like it’ll be the only FPS Halo game that will lack split-screen.

The news regarding the return of split-screen was announced by Bonnie at DICE 2017 during her talked titled “Stewards of a Sci-Fi Universe”. There were many discussion points during this talk, such as the lessons the team at 343I have learned over the years, including the many issues with MCC, and of course, the effect on the community Halo 5 had for having no local split-screen multiplayer. She boldly stated that “for any FPS going out forward, we will always have split-screen.” which is excellent news to all those people who missed that vital experience.

During the talk she also mentioned that sometimes the company can feel they’re pushing too much story into their games, and that in the future, 343I plans to keep the stories easier to follow, and more simple, while also using a range of different media to include or introduce deeper narratives.

What are your opinions on this news? Are you excited for the return of split-screen multiplayer? How are you finding the current method of storytelling in the Halo universe? Let us know in the comments below, or over our pages and groups on other platforms.
