Speaking to GameReactor DayZ creator Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall has confirmed that he has been in talks with Microsoft over the potential of bringing the critically acclaimed zombie survival title to the Xbox One.
“I have had the opportunity to talk extensively with Microsoft. The next-gen consoles show very exciting promise. I’m hopeful that they can deliver on that. Am important part of that, from my perspective, is encouraging and supporting third-party creative development to bring the “edginess” of PC creative development into the console. I think if the role of Kinect/voice expands to where it is desired it could do some awesome things. I just think it’s too early to say at this point.”
Voice commands on DayZ would add another dimension to the game.
With an ever increasing number of PC titles making it on to the latest consoles, speculation over games such as DayZ have increased over the recent months. Certainly, with the latest console hardware resembling lesser gaming PCs the transition is definitely possible as Hall implied: “We’d certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model. It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside…I personally feel the new consoles have yet to prove themselves able to rival the PC experience, however I feel there is the potential from both.”
You will be tested in every way possible, DayZ’s learning curve is not for the casual.
There are concerns however, that even with the latest console hardware, a DayZ port may have to be scaled down as even the standalone game is highly intensive for gaming PCs. The hope is that a closed system would offer greater optimisation but don’t be expecting it anytime soon.
DayZ is a zombie survival simulator originally modded from ARMA2, the mod proved to be highly successful and a standalone title was later developed ala Counter-Strike. Check out DayZ in the video below.
