It’s a sad day for Final Fantasy fans.
A ‘special’ livestream took place yesterday, with many Final Fantasy fans expecting good news. Unfortunately two pieces of bad news were revealed instead. Final Fantasy XV’s Director, Hajime Tabata, broke the news that he has left Square Enix. Tabata is credited with really getting the ball rolling on FF XV’s long development and into the hands of gamers.
The announcement follows from Square Enix’s statement regarding losses of 3,733 million yen (over £25 million). Luminous Productions, recently formed by Tabata, was cited in a statement released by Square Enix.
Eurogamer reports that Tabata was offered the option to turn Luminous Productions into a Square Enix business division. He was also offered to take the company away from Square Enix with investment by them. He declined both options and choose to leave instead.
If this wasn’t enough bad news. Within the announcement, it was also stated that most of Final Fantasy XV’s remaining DLC would also be scrapped. FF XV’s Ardyn episode will still be released in March 2019. There’s is also still some multiplayer DLC and a short anime film in development. However the planned Aranea, Luna and Noctis episodes have been cancelled.
How do you feel about the cancelled FF XV DLC? How big of a loss will Tabata’s departure be to Square Enix? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
