Gears of War 4 is getting a new update this September with 2 new maps to explore, more achievements, improved match-making and Season 2 of ranked play.
20 new achievements are to be added to the game to help drive newer players in the first 10 hours of the game. A total of 500-G up for grabs, this means many players will find they have some, if not all when they turn on their games for the first time, but a nice way to get that feel good factor earlier on. This is possibly in keeping with the time of year for those of us in the UK.
The breakdowns of the new maps are as follows –
· Harbour Haze.
Mist roles in and out of this arena reducing visibility causing players to rely on other senses outside of sight, being careful to keep their itchy trigger fingers steady so to not give away their position jumping at shadows. This means players need to rely more on stealth and close quarter’s combat helping change the dynamic of the match to favour different types of players at different times.
Set on the frozen edges of winter, this map offers a range of play options, from close quarters combat in the streets, holy battles among the pews in the church and a race to the high ground in the centre of the town. A modern look on a classic map will leave Gears vets feeling nostalgic for the good old Pew to Pew shoot outs.
Gears of War is moving away from the current region locked match making system to the new quality of service match making system. This will help link you with players with similar connection speeds to help improve the quality of matches. This will be a major improvement helping to make matches more fair and of better quality.
On top of this, improvements will be made to the skill based matchmaking just in time for Season 2 ranked matches. Mid September will see the end of the current season and the handing out of the weapon skins all you eligible players have all been fighting for. This will mean everyone will be reset to an even playing field and you will need to get back onto those playlists and fight your way back to the top.
Two new packs will release this month, the first being the return of the Locus Sniper. There will also been a brand new special event for versus and a bonus loot drop event in the 25 wave horde mode, Horde Frenzy.
Plenty more in planned for Gears of War 4 in the coming months and with the first anniversary of the gaming coming next month I’m sure there is plenty in the pipe work. The developers are thanking all players for taking part in the combined 10 billion minutes played in the game.
