Last week the annual Golden Joystick Awards were held on October 30th in London, this annual award ceremony pushes the public to vote and champion the game/games that a person has loved throughout the gaming calendar year.
The ceremony this year seemed to champion CD Projekt RED and their multi-award winning title The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which picked up 5 awards at the show.
The categories that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and CD Projekt RED walked away with gold were the following –
- Best Gaming Moment
- Best Visual Design
- Best Storytelling
- Studio of the Year
- Ultimate Game of the Year
These are some big categories, but the development team at CD Projekt RED spent years of time, effort and passion working on a game that has been received outstandingly by fans and critics alike. Many members of the XBLG staff have had their hands on The Witcher 3 and found it to be an outstanding and masterpiece of a title, the ability to draw in fans and new comers to the series alike is hard for an established Fantasy RPG game. The game has also had constant support from the studio since release with numerous patches of substantial size and effect, 16 free DLC released and 1 of 2 scheduled premium DLC adding many more hours of game play to the game.
The majority of the development team have moved onto the studios next adventure titled Cyberpunk 2077, though fans of The Witcher 3 fear not as a sizeable amount of the team are still working on the remaining DLC for the Witcher titles Blood and Wine (Scheduled for a Q1 release in 2016). Cyberpunk 2077 was announced back in 2012 and with no announcement on a release date yet, also with the recent array of awards picked up by The Witcher 3 the studio will be in great spirits. The wait for the next CD Projekt RED title may be a long one but this studio has proved it will be worth the wait.
