Zen Studios have recently announced a new dungeon-crawling RPG game – Operencia: The Stolen Sun. Best known for their Pinball FX games Zen are breaking into new territory with this title, which is heavily inspired by Hungarian and European folklore.
“The Land of Operencia is an unconventional fantasy world where history meets legend” – Says Zen in a recent press release. They have researched into hundreds of years of folktales and have integrated as many of the characters and settings into their game as possible, making it feel like a world rich with lore and real-life Historical figures such as King Attila and the brave knight Mezey. To make the gameplay experience even more immersive and authentic, great lengths were taken to find voice actors from the different areas that the game world encapsulates. There is even a full orchestral score to make the audio experience amazing and engaging.
In Operencia, the Sun King has been abducted leaving the world in constant darkness and impending doom. It is your task to rescue the King and bring the light back, saving the kingdom from ruin. There will be 13 worlds to explore, each with their own atmosphere, visual style and level design. Every world will be full of puzzles galore to solve, along with 50 different types of enemies to slay. You will have a party of 7 members to do this with, all of which are fully upgradeable making no two battles the same.
Gameplay is a classic format of tiles for movement and strategic turn-based combat, making it familiar to pick up and play for most RPG fans. The addition of spells and special skills will give you a wide variety of ways to enhance and grow your combat ability.
Zen games really believe in making the best title they can having already run a closed beta to iron out bugs and get valued feedback from the players. This is great to see, but it would be nice to get a rough idea for a release date soon. At least they’re working on it till they are ready rather than rushing to get it out there. When we know more, we will let you know.
